Tottenham Hotspur have offered a professional contract to young defender Marqes Muir, with The Telegraph reporting that the 18-year-old is attracting interest from elsewhere.
Muir has been a regular fixture for their under-18s this season. He has made nine appearances in the under-18 Premier League.
The teenager has also captained the side on a couple of occasions. So it is little surprise that Spurs seem to be keen to ensure that his future is tied up.
According to The Telegraph, Tottenham have offered the Lambeth-born youngster his first professional contract.
However, they may not be the only team to put an offer on the table. The report notes that AZ Alkmaar are interested in Muir.
It remains to be seen what decision Muir comes to. There have been some members of the academy who have moved abroad in recent years.
Shayon Harrison headed to the Netherlands to join Almere City in 2019. Meanwhile, Noni Madueke joined PSV Eindhoven one year earlier.
So Spurs are unlikely to be complacent with Muir’s future. AZ have relied on a number of youngsters this season, so the pathway to the first-team is definitely there for the teenager if he does leave.
But it looks to be an exciting time to be at Tottenham as well. Jose Mourinho has handed debuts to the likes of Harvey White, Dane Scarlett and Alfie Devine during his tenure.
And that will certainly encourage Muir should he decide to stay in North London.
