According to a fresh report from the Mirror, Spurs have now moved ahead of Chelsea in the race to sign Brazilian midfielder, Philippe Coutinho.

Coutinho moved to Barcelona back in 2018 in a £142m (BBC) move from Liverpool.

However, the Brazilian has struggled in the main since moving to Spain. He has since moved on to Bayern Munich on loan. But it appears the German giants are not keen on taking Coutinho on a permanent deal.

That, then, has left the door wide open for both Spurs and Chelsea to make their move. And despite Chelsea being heavily linked with completing a move last week, Spurs are apparently now in the driving seat.

The latest report suggests that Spurs could be prepared to do a loan deal with a guarantee of buying the Brazilian.

With Chelsea apparently still unsure of committing to a full-time deal, that could leave Spurs in the driving seat.

The future of Coutinho is going to be something that rumbles on throughout the summer.

A number of clubs are interested it seems. Spurs and Chelsea would both be good fits you would think. However, it could just come down to a case of who puts up the best deal to Barcelona.

Coutinho’s spell in Spain hasn’t been a complete failure. It’s more the price the Catalan giants paid for him.

He’s still well into double figures in terms of goals and assists and could boost both Spurs and Chelsea’s squads for next season.
