Report: Spurs monitoring Roma starlet in recent weeks
Tottenham have been monitoring Roma starlet Nicolo Zaniolo in recent weeks – but there looks to be a big problem for Fabio Paratici, according to Calciomercato.
What’s the story?
Zaniolo is attracting attention with Jose Mourinho’s men making an incredibly bright start to the Serie A campaign.
He has actually not enjoyed the strongest start himself. The 22-year-old was sent off against Fiorentina. He picked up two yellow cards.
Nevertheless, it appears that Paratici is keen to bring him to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Calciomercato reports that Spurs have been watching Zaniolo in recent weeks.
But the report claims that Roma are working on agreeing a new contract with the winger. Talks are reportedly moving in the right direction.
Calciomercato claims that Zaniolo wants a pay-rise on his current £41,000-a-week terms. It is noted that the arrival of Tammy Abraham has had an impact on his demands. The striker earns €4.5 million a year following his move.
But the report suggests that Zaniolo is very attached to the Giallorossi. And the two parties are set for fresh talks in the next few days.
Move for Zaniolo would come with element of risk for Tottenham
Zaniolo has endured some torrid luck with injuries. He has suffered two serious knee injuries in the past.
The first ruled him out for around six months. But the second stopped him playing at all last season.
So a move would be something of a roll of the dice.
Having said that, luring him away from the Italian capital was never going to be easy. Calciomercato reports that his current terms run until 2024 anyway.
And Mourinho is clearly a big fan. He recently claimed that he has seen few players with his potential.
