Report: Spurs monitoring Celtic star Odsonne Edouard

Spurs are amongst the clubs monitoring Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard heading into the final hours of the transfer window, according to a report from the Daily Record.

Edouard could be on the move as the deadline looms. As noted by the Daily Record, he is into the final year of his contract at Parkhead.

It is claimed that Rubin Kazan are preparing an £18 million bid for the Frenchman. However, Edouard wants to move to the Premier League.

And a host of sides are interested.

The Daily Record reports that Everton, Crystal Palace and Brighton all want the 23-year-old.

But they also state that Spurs are monitoring the situation. So it will be interesting to see if Tottenham decide to confirm their interest with a last gasp bid.

Spurs move in this window may not be best option for Edouard or Tottenham

Edouard has been an inspired signing for Celtic. He has scored 88 goals in 179 appearances for the club in all competitions.

Admittedly, his form has been questioned at times. He missed a glorious chance for Ange Postecoglou’s men in Sunday’s Old Firm game.

But he is still a young player with time to improve considerably. And he may prove to be a fantastic signing if he joins Tottenham. But perhaps this window may be the wrong time for that move.

Spurs will seemingly need to offer at least £18 million if they want Edouard. But with Harry Kane staying put and Nuno Espirito Santo tending to use a 4-3-3 system, there are no guarantees that he will play a lot.

The pressure would then be on Edouard to do well when chances come his way.

Spurs should perhaps gamble therefore, on Edouard staying put this summer in the hope that they can land him on a free next year.

Kane may still be a Tottenham player next season. But on a free transfer, there would be a lot less pressure on Edouard if he is more of an understudy initially.
