Report: Spurs midfielder Harry Winks being monitored by La Liga sides

Harry Winks could be offered the chance to move to Spain if the door is left open for the midfielder to leave Tottenham Hotspur, with The Athletic reporting that there are La Liga sides who are admirers of the 24-year-old.

Winks has played a peripheral role for Jose Mourinho’s men this season. He has not featured in the Premier League since the dramatic 3-3 draw with West Ham in October.

Meanwhile, his last start in the top flight came in September. So understandably, there is plenty of speculation surrounding what the future may hold for Winks.

The Athletic notes that his lack of game-time is particularly problematic this season. Winks, of course, is looking to book his spot in England’s squad for the European Championships.

So it will be interesting to see whether he pushes for any sort of move next month. The Athletic reports that there are La Liga sides who would be keen.

However, The Athletic also suggests that finding a permanent buyer is unlikely due to the financial impact of the current global situation. And Tottenham sanctioning a loan deal may be a gamble given that they are currently battling on several fronts.

A loan move could potentially work out really well for all parties. Winks – who earns £50,000-a-week, according to Spotrac – could regain some confidence and get the chance to stake his claim to go to Euro 2020.

Meanwhile, Mourinho may find it easier to make a long-term decision on his future if he has gone out on loan. It could be that he decides to keep him in his ranks. Or, it could increase his value should the Spurs boss make a ruthless decision and decide that he should be sold upon his return.

But as The Athletic notes, it could be a gamble to loan him out.

Mourinho’s men lead the Premier League. They are also in the knockout stages of the Europa League.

The squad will be stretched once again during the second-half of the campaign. And if they are a little more unlucky with injuries in the new year, players such as Winks could get a fantastic opportunity – if he remains in the squad.
