Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly turned down the chance to sign Manchester United academy defender Junior Nkwonta, according to All Nigeria Soccer.

Back in January, the same outlet claimed that Nkwonta had accepted a trial at Spurs after the Red Devils informed him that he would not be offered a scholarship for next season.

The follow-up report says Nkwonta trained with Tottenham prior to football being shut down due to the global health crisis.

However, Spurs are believed to have passed up the opportunity to sign up the youngster, largely due to his height.

The report has added that the teenager – who is now planning to switch from a centre-back to a defensive midfielder- has also trained with EFL sides Peterborough and Exeter.

TBR View:

Nkwonta has been described as a mobile centre-back who is very strong on the ball and technically good, and was deemed to have had interest from numerous Premier League clubs back in January.

He’s been very unlucky in that he’s having to find another club but his efforts to do so have been hamstrung by the football suspension, so fingers crossed it all works out for him in the end with regards to finding a new place to ply his trade.
