Tottenham Hotspur have seemingly looked to steal a march on the likes of Barcelona and Ajax in the race to sign Matthew Hoppe, with AS reporting that Spurs have made contact with Schalke about the striker.
Hoppe has been a shining light in what has been a terrible season for the Bundesliga side. He did not make his professional debut until November, but he looks to be on course to finish as their top goalscorer.

The 20-year-old has scored five goals in 16 games. And it appears that he is attracting a lot of attention ahead of the summer, with Spurs amongst his admirers.
According to AS, Barca, Ajax, PSV Eindhoven, Villarreal and Valencia all want Hoppe. And it is claimed that the American has already spoken to his club about leaving in the summer.

Interestingly, the report adds that Tottenham have already been in contact with Schalke about a potential move.
TBR View: Coup for Spurs if they win race for Hoppe
There is already a pretty illustrious queue of clubs forming in the race to land Hoppe’s signature.
So it would be a big coup for Tottenham if they could secure his signature.
He is obviously still developing as a player. And it may not be the kind of marquee signing supporters would have been hoping for.
But the interest in him highlights the potential he is showing. It would be a big statement therefore, if Spurs win the race.
