Spurs reportedly wanted to sign Brentford goalkeeper David Raya this summer, before Fabio Paratici pulled the plug due to finances.
Paratici instead landed Pierluigi Gollini from Atalanta. The Italian was confirmed yesterday, and will now compete with Hugo Lloris for the number one spot.
However, it could have been a different story. The Athletic claims that Spurs actually enquired about bringing Raya to North London. But a move was deemed too expensive, and Paratici quickly moved on to Gollini.

Raya is set to take centre stage for Brentford this season as they fight to beat the drop in their debut Premier League season. He is just shy of 100 appearances for the Bees, having made over a century for Blackburn Rovers previously.
Spurs have reportedly agreed to pay just shy of £13m for Gollini in their obligation. Brentford, then, were clearly asking for big money for Raya.
The 25-year-old Spaniard has been linked with the Premier League previously. Arsenal sounded him out last year, before his performances finally helped Brentford to promotion.
Time will tell
Spurs are happy with Gollini and rightly so. He’ll do the job, and will be willing to sit behind Lloris for a bit too it seems.
Next year is really when we’ll see how good Gollini is, unless Lloris is ousted by new manager Nuno Santo.
With Raya, he simply needs to keep doing what he’s done. He is definitely good enough for the Premier League. Spurs fans, then, will be watching on with interest when it comes to the Brentford man’s displays.
