While Spurs continue to look for a new manager, it looks like they’ve also been dealt a blow on the playing side, with Paulo Dybala now set to stay with Juventus.

That’s according to Tuttosport, who claim Dybala now wants to focus on matters on the pitch, despite his contract coming to an end in 2022.

It marks a blow for Spurs, who had been hoping to make a move for Dybala this summer. Calciomercato claimed at the end of March that Spurs and Daniel Levy were pushing to sign Dybala, who has had a disappointing campaign by his high standards.

But it appears the forward is now looking to crack on with his football in Italy. It would well mean, then, that Dybala is free to walk away for nothing come next summer, which would surely spark and almighty transfer scramble.

Dybala has been a success at Juve. He won the player of the year award under Maurizio Sarri, and back in 2016, Carlo Ancelotti backed him to be as good as the likes of Leo Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

TBR View: Dybala always a tough deal to get done for Spurs

Signing someone like Dybala was always going to be a tough ask for Levy and Spurs. His wages are said to be massive, while he’d also find it hard to leave for a club not guaranteed European football next year.

Dybala is some talent and if he does leave in 2022, then Spurs should throw their name in the hat again. But for now, it looks like being another case of disappointment for the club.
