Reported Tottenham Hotspur long-time target Gareth Bale could be jettisoned by Real Madrid on a free transfer at the end of the season, according to a report in Marca.
Bale, who left Spurs for the Bernabeu in a then world record £85million fee in 2013 (BBC Sport), has found himself surplus to requirements at the Spanish capital club.
This season, the Wales international has made just 11 starts in La Liga, and has netted just three goals in all competitions this season, with injuries and loss of form playing their part.

Marca claims that Real head coach Zinedine Zidane doesn’t want Bale in his squad and that Los Blancos are potentially willing to waive his transfer fee in order to get him off the wage bill.
Earning a reported £650,000-a-week, few clubs worldwide can afford his wages, with a prospective move to Chinese Super League side Jiangsu Suning falling through last summer.
However, Tottenham have long been linked with a player who was on their books between 2007 and 2013, lighting up White Hart Lane from 2009 onwards, and could be interested in getting him back.
Manchester United also continue to be linked with Bale’s services.
TBR View:
Bale’s time at Real continues to go from bad to worse, a player brought in as a potential heir to Cristiano Ronaldo, and having contributed to many of the club’s successes over the past decade, now frozen out amid loss of form and injury woes.
Bale is no doubt a world-class player and is also fond of Spurs and of Jose Mourinho, previously telling Football London: “Having Mourinho there is an amazing statement from the club, I think he’s a serial winner.
“Tottenham want to win trophies and I don’t think there’s a better partnership than Mourinho and Tottenham together to try and win some trophies.”
However, with Tottenham having also had a bad season this time round and needing an overhaul of their squad, a 30-year-old player whose injury record over the past few years hasn’t been good and who is likely to command big wages isn’t what they need right now.
