In wake of Tottenham Hotspur’s shock Europa League last-16 elimination last night, Spurs boss Jose Mourinho is under increasing pressure at the club.

Tottenham led Dinamo Zagreb 2-0 from the first leg, Harry Kane’s brace last Thursday putting Spurs in pole position to qualify for the quarter-finals.

And come half time in the second leg in Croatia, Tottenham were still looking good value to get through the tie as the game remained goalless.

However, Spurs completely collapsed after the interval as Mislav Orsic’s brace took the game to extra time and then added a third in the 106th minute.

According to the Daily Mail, failure to seal Champions League football would cost Mourinho his job.

The outlet claims that Spurs have begun process of identifying potential replacements for the Portuguese has already begun.

RB Leipzig boss Julian Nagelsmann is reportedly viewed by many behind the scenes as the perfect candidate to take the reins if Mourinho.

And the Daily Mail claims that Nagelsmann could be obtainable for £6million a year – less than half of Mourinho’s reported salary, which is said to be worth as much as £13million.

TBR View:

Spurs were simply woeful last night, worse than they were in the North London derby, so it’s little surprise that Mourinho appears to be on increasingly thin ice.

Given the financial difficulties incurred by the industry in the last 12 months, another season without Champions League would put huge strain on Spurs’ finances.

And amid rumours of disharmony within the squad and dressing room, there’s certainly scope for change if things don’t pick up by the end of the season.

And Nagelsmann, a young coach who Jurgen Klopp has deemed a “big, big, big coaching talent”, is a great shout for Spurs – though he’s likely to be in demand over the coming months.
