Reported Tottenham Hotspur target Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has told rival suitors Everton “on at least two occasions” that he wants to move to Spurs and play under Jose Mourinho, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The Southampton midfielder previously played under Pep Guardiola at Bayern Munich, winning four Bundesliga titles, three German Cups and a Club World Cup.

He then joined the Saints in the summer of 2016 for a reported £12.8million (BBC Sport), where he has made 134 appearances in all competitions.

With Hojbjerg’s £50,000-a-week contract expiring in 2021, speculation over the former Saints captain has increased massively in recent months, with Tottenham and Everton said to be especially keen.

A report in the Southern Daily Echo on Tuesday claimed that the Denmark international had visited Everton’s training ground and agreed to personal terms after Saints accepted their £25million offer.

However, a follow-up piece in the Liverpool Echo believed that Everton have not lodged such a bid.

The Merseyside outlet adds that, though they have made it clear to Hojbjerg they want him, he has told the Blues, on at least two occasions, that he wishes to move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

TBR View:

Hojbjerg is a high-calibre player with an impressive CV, a dynamic, tenacious midfielder with great passing, vision, an eye for goal and leadership skills, as proven by his captain’s armband at Premier League level.

This situation seems to be developing fairly quickly, with varying and at times conflicting reports, and just as it looked as though Spurs suffered a huge blow in the race for Hojbjerg’s signature, it looks as though it’s still very much open.
