Report: Spurs insiders weighing up Mauricio Pochettino return

According to a report from the Independent, Spurs could make a surprise run for former manager Mauricio Pochettino this summer.

The report from the Independent claims that some Spurs insiders and even players are keen on the idea of seeing Pochettino back in charge.

Pochettino left Spurs back in November of 2019. At the time, although many were disappointed to see him leave, there was a feeling it might be for the best. Certainly, that appeared to be the case when Daniel Levy set on Jose Mourinho to replace ‘Poch’.

But things could now come full circle. Tottenham have recently parted ways with Mourinho, while Pochettino has struggled at PSG. He was knocked out of the Champions League by Manchester City, and Lille have just won Ligue 1.

Those failings have led some inside the Spurs camp to believe that Pochettino might be open to ditching the PSG job already, according to the report.

Spurs finished the season with a flourish, coming from behind to beat Leicester City, 4-2. But they also finished well short in the race for the top four.

Pochettino, of course, led Spurs to the Champions League final, only to be beaten by Liverpool.

TBR’s View: Pochettino to Spurs? They could do a lot worse

A number of managers are being linked with the Tottenham job but Pochettino would probably be the most welcome of them all.

Most Tottenham fans didn’t want him gone anyway. So if he was to return, it’s not like there would be bad blood. It’s also believed that Levy and Poch retained a decent enough relationship after he departed.

Levy raved about Pochettino back in 2017, admitting he had the ‘utmost respect’ for the Argentinian. A reunion, then, might not be the strangest thing to happen.
