Tottenham Hotspur new signing Ivan Perisic has been described as an ‘intense’ character by club insiders.

That’s according to Football London’s Alasdair Gold, who was reporting on his pre-match press conference.

Perisic was speaking to the media ahead of Totteham’s Champions League clash against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Spurs currently find themselves level on points with Frankfurt in Group D after two games.

Antonio Conte will be hoping his side can bounce back from their defeat against North London rivals Arsenal on Saturday.

Perisic started the match at left-back, but was brought off with 20 minutes remaining.

Conte likely wanted to save Perisic’s legs ahead of Tottenham’s European clash.

There’s a good chance that the Italian manager starts the Croatian again tonight.

Perisic also picked up a knock on international duty, thanks to a clash with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, and Conte may have been protecting the wing-back.

Perisic is an ‘intense’ character

Tottenham insiders believe that Perisic and Hojbjerg are very similar ‘intense’ characters, Football London reports.

Both players are vital to Conte’s system, and their intensity will have an effect on their teammates.

Conte will be hoping that Perisic’s character can rub off on some of his younger teammates.

The Croatian admitted yesterday that ‘he’s here to help’ when asked about his relationship with Ryan Sessegnon.

Given Conte’s comments on Djed Spence and Matt Doherty ahead of tonight’s game, the pair could end up starting together again.

Conte is a big fan of Sessegnon, and seems very keen to give him an opportunity this season.

So much so, that Perisic has been shifted out onto the right despite naturally being a left-sided player.

However, the ‘winning mentality and drive to succeed’ Spurs insiders have seen from Perisic show why he’s capable of playing in the unfamiliar role.
