Tottenham Hotspur have opened talks with Swansea City over a potential move for Joe Rodon, according to a report from Sky Sports’s live transfer blog (5/10; 17:58).

Spurs are yet to make a signing at centre-back this summer. And it appeared that Jose Mourinho was ready to accept defeat, with The Telegraph reporting on their blog (5/10; 9:02) that the boss was happy with what he had at his disposal.

However, there appears to have been a late twist.

Sky Sports’s live transfer blog (5/10; 17:58) is now reporting that a deal for Rodon may be edging closer. In fact, Sky claims that one source has suggested that an £18 million move is close to being agreed.

Rodon looks to be an extremely exciting talent. The 22-year-old has started all four of the Swans’ Championship games this term, and he has impressed.

He was also a key part of the side that reached the play-off semi-final last year.

Of course, Spurs do not necessarily need to rush to get a deal agreed. They would still be able to complete a move after Monday’s initial deadline.

However, Tottenham may be wary of leaving the door open for potential rivals to make a move. It would be no surprise if Rodon was on the radar of several Premier League clubs this summer.

Nevertheless, Spurs are seemingly the side making the most progress. And it appears that a deal may not be far off.
