Tottenham Hotspur are now leading the race to sign Thomas Meunier on a free transfer this summer, according to Le Parisien.
The outlet claims that Paris Saint-Germain are looking to cut their losses and won’t be offering the right-back a new deal, while at the player’s end, the Spurs lead is “especially” serious, though Borussia Dortmund are also thought to be in the running.
Speculation linking Spurs and Meunier continues to increase – according to a recent report by L’Equipe, Jose Mourinho has told the player that he wants him at Spurs next season, which apparently went “very close” to convincing him to make the move.

Sky Sports journalist Kaveh Solhekol, meanwhile, recently claimed that the Belgium international is “attracted by the prospect of playing in London for Mourinho”, even though he’s expected to be “one of the most sought-after players during the summer”.
The 28-year-old right-back joined Paris Saint-Germain from Club Brugge for a reported €7million (£6.3million) fee in 2016 and has made 128 appearances for the Ligue 1 giants, claiming 13 goals and 21 assists (Transfermarkt).
However, Meunier has started just 14 games in the French top flight this term and, with no breakthrough in contract talks, he looks set to seek pastures new on a free transfer.
The 6ft 3in ace won the Belgian Pro League with Brugge in 2016 before finishing top of the table with PSG in 2018, 2019 and 2020, as well as helping Belgium finish third in the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
TBR View:
Meunier is a high-calibre player with plenty of experience at the highest level and, as well as being great in defence, is also a constant threat up the flank and in the final third – making him a great option for Tottenham.
The prospect of a 40-cap international for a world-class team who was valued at £26million just last summer (The Mirror), arriving at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for absolutely nothing is pretty exciting and, with speculation continuing to gather pace, it bodes well in terms of the move actually happening.
