Maurizio Sarri appears to be high on Tottenham Hotspur’s wishlist as they search for their next manager, with Calciomercato. It reporting that Spurs are in frequent contact with the Italian.
Sarri is one of several names to have been linked with the Tottenham post. As noted by The Athletic on Wednesday, the likes of Julian Nagelsmann, Scott Parker and Ralph Hasenhuttl have their admirers amongst the Spurs hierarchy.
But it appears that Sarri is also a key contender – if reports emerging from Italy are correct.
Calciomercato. It has claimed that frequent talks with the 62-year-old have been taking place.
And interestingly, the report adds that Sarri would be keen to return to the Premier League and to London.
The report does note that he is also contention for the Roma job. And perhaps it would not be a surprise if a number of Tottenham fans hoped that Sarri did end up with the Giallorossi.
Despite winning the Europa League, Sarri’s stock did not exactly rise during his time at Chelsea. And he was sacked by Juventus ahead of this season.
However, Sarri is a manager who instils a clear identity in his teams. And his time at Chelsea came after a superb spell with Napoli. So you could certainly understand why Tottenham may have him on their radar.
Having said that, Spurs fans may not be in the mood for the club appointing a former Chelsea boss.
