Report: Spurs have just made their move for one of the ‘top four’ box-to-box midfielders in Europe

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Bologna’s Mattias Svanberg in recent months.

Back in January, Calciomercato claimed Spurs had ‘made first enquiries’ ahead of a possible move.

Svanberg stayed put come the end of the window, but it looks as though Tottenham still want him.

Tuttosport, via Sport Witness, claim Spurs are one of several Premier League sides to have ‘made an enquiry’ about the 23-year-old.

Svanberg’s Bologna contract expires in 2023 and he’s yet to pen fresh terms at the Serie A club.

The Swede’s club reportedly – and understandably – doesn’t want to sell him.

They have apparently put a ‘high price’ of €18-20m (£15m-£16.7m) on Svanberg.

Tuttosport also claim Bologna are hoping to convince the player’s agents to sign a new deal so they can sell for a higher price.

And the Italians are apparently confident they can come to some sort of arrangement with Svanberg’s camp.

This could potentially be in the form of a new deal with a release clause, or at least an agreement to sell for a price that he and his agent find acceptable.

However, as things stand, Svanberg reportedly has ‘no intention’ of signing a contract extension.

“Spurs already know him very, very well”

With Tanguy Ndombele’s Tottenham future very uncertain, Antonio Conte may well bolster his midfield ranks further in summer.

And Svanberg would be a great shout for Spurs.

He has 116 competitive appearances for Bologna and has won 18 Sweden caps, scoring once for his nation.

Svanberg is very solid defensively but also has the ability to contribute at the offensive end.

In December, i claimed Tottenham were leading the race for Svanberg.

A source told the outlet: “He’s probably one of the top four or five No 8’s in Europe – that’s how good he is.

“Spurs already know him very, very well because of the Italians involved in the club now.”
