Tottenham Hotspur’s deal for Emerson is a sign that they are ‘confident’ of getting rid of Serge Aurier or Matt Doherty today, Football London report.
Clue given
Emerson is set to join Spurs from Barcelona later today, with Fabrizio Romano confirming that the deal was now done.
And Alasdair Gold has now written that Spurs are set to part ways with either Aurier or Doherty, or even potentially both of them, in the coming hours.
Tottenham apparently would never have signed a right-back if Doherty and Aurier were set to stay.
That is because they would have been left with four right sided defenders in their squad, with Japhet Tanganga emerging as a real option in the position under Nuno.
Tottenham have, though, now green lighted the move for Emerson.
One in, two out?
And it looks set to be a case of one in, and possibly two out at Hotspur Way.

If Doherty or Aurier leave it is unlikely that too many tears will be shed around Spurs.
Doherty has struggled to make any sort of positive impact at Tottenham since signing last summer in a deal worth £15 million (The Sun).
Aurier also just hasn’t been able to cut errors out of his game, and that has seen the 28-year-old lose his place entirely under Nuno.
