Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in Braga forward Paulinho, according to 90Min.

Spurs boss Jose Mourinho confirmed earlier this week that he wanted to sign a striker, and was confident of doing so before the transfer window shut.

Earlier this year, Tottenham found themselves in the midst of a crisis up front when Harry Kane and Son Heung-min were both sidelined through injury.

A new no. 9 is therefore on Mourinho’s radar, and Paulinho, a former Portugal Under-21 international, is believed to be in his compatriot’s sights.

Paulinho came through the ranks at Portuguese lower-league side Santa Maria before having spells at second-tier Trofense and top-flight Gil Vicente.

He moved to Braga in 2017 and, to date, has made 129 competitive appearances for them, registering 53 goals and 20 assists.

Paulinho has hit double figures in each of his last four seasons for the Portuguese side, and was especially prolific last term, with 25 goals in 48 appearances.

The 27-year-old, who was linked with Wolves earlier in the window, is reportedly available for £30million.

TBR View:

Paulinho is a talented and prolific striker whose goalscoring record over the past few seasons paints a picture of consistency, class and progress, and surely it’s only a matter of time before he moves to a bigger club than Braga.

According to 90Min, Paulinho boasts a similar style to Harry Kane, using his physicality to great effect, while the Birmingham Mail, reporting on the 6ft 2in man from a Wolves angle, suggested he was “Portugal’s answer to Jamie Vardy”.

Admittedly, £30million is a pretty hefty fee for a player unproven in the Premier League, but his style of play seems right for a Mourinho team, not to mention he’d pick up a lot from Kane, one of the best strikers in world football.
