Report: Spurs eyeing imposing 25-cap centre-back who has been compared to Nemanja Vidic
Tottenham Hotspur are considering a move for Napoli central defender Nikola Maksimovic, according to reports.
The 29-year-old has made 14 appearances in all competitions this season, being largely limited to game time in the Europa League early on but now featuring more often in Serie A.
Maksimovic’s contract expires at the end of the 2020-21 campaign and the player looks increasingly likely to leave the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
The 25-cap Serbia international is currently able to discuss terms with non-Italian clubs over a free transfer.
And according to Radio Kiss Kiss (via Spazio Napoli), he’s a player that Spurs are monitoring.
FourFourTwo, meanwhile, claims that Jose Mourinho could even launch an attempt to sign Maksimovic this month.
However, they suggest Napoli could be reluctant to sell him unless they can secure a replacement before the window closes next week.
Maksimovic is a decent player who stands a mighty 6ft 4in tall and has made plenty of appearances in Serie A, European competition and internationally.
He was previously deemed the heir to Manchester United and Serbia great Nemanja Vidic.
However, do Spurs really need him?
Jose Mourinho currently has Eric Dier, Toby Alderweireld, Davinson Sanchez and Joe Rodon at his disposal, and is Maksimovic really better than these options?
