Report: Spurs could launch £34m bid for 22-year-old talent; he’s started just once this season
Spurs could make a £34m offer for FC Barcelona defender Emerson Royal, who could leave this week.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Spurs are contemplating a big-money offer for the 22-year-old right-back. A move could be determined if Serge Aurier leaves north London in the remaining two days of the transfer window.
Emerson has been on Tottenham’s radar for some time. Arsenal are also keen on the young Brazilian, but it is Nuno Espirito Santo’s side who look the most likely to win the race for the former Atletico Mineiro star.
Indeed, the defender has started just one game for Barcelona this season. Emerson returned to the club after spending a season with Real Betis on loan. However, the Catalan giants are open to selling the right-back.
After all, the club’s financial problems have been well documented this summer. Barcelona are over €1bn in debt and are eager to sell unwanted players to ease the damage.
With Emerson making just one start this campaign, the youngster could move on from the Nou Camp in the coming days. And Tottenham might be a good destination for the defender if Nuno can offload Aurier beforehand.
Japhet Tanganga has filled in at right-back in the opening three games, with the defender impressing in an unnatural position under Nuno. Yet Emerson would be an upgrade for Spurs on the England youngster.
The Brazilian has the quality and physicality to impress in the Premier League. But Spurs face a race against time to secure Emerson’s signature.
