Report: Tottenham make contact over signing Isaiah Jones

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly joined the race to sign Isaiah Jones this summer.

Spurs boss Antonio Conte continues to have a major headache at right wing-back.

Though Matt Doherty did well for Tottenham against Leeds, he then struggled against Middlesbrough in the FA Cup.

Meanwhile, Jones dazzled for the Championship side as they knocked Spurs out at the fifth-round stage.

“Got stronger as the game went on and was a real threat on the right,” wrote the Hartlepool Mail, who gave him 8/10.

“Kept charging forward into the Spurs box as space opened up.”

In terms of long-term solutions at right wing-back, Conte needs to delve into the transfer market in summer.

And according to 90min, Jones is now in Tottenham’s sights after he helped Boro beat Spurs.

Conte was reportedly impressed by the 22-year-old’s display and is now hoping to sign him.

Jones has been one of Chris Wilder’s top performers this season, registering nine Championship assists.

However, Tottenham aren’t the only club reportedly eyeing him.

90Min claim that Manchester United, West Ham and Crystal Palace are also watching him closely.

And in Europe, Atletico Madrid, Ajax and RB Leipzig have also reportedly been keeping an eye on his performances.

Jones has been getting plenty of plaudits this season.

Wilder told Sky Sports in January: “He is an exciting young player who has clearly caught the eye.

“It’s his first season at Championship level and he has been outstanding since we’ve come into the building.”

And last month, Derby boss Wayne Rooney praised Jones after he helped Boro run out 4-1 winners over the Rams.

“He’s a very good player,” Teesside Live quoted him as saying.

“The lad has a bright future ahead of him and it was because of Jones that we felt we had to set up differently.

“We knew he’s very aggressive going forward and thought we could utilise the space behind but obviously that didn’t happen.

“It is a compliment to him that a good player like [Djed] Spence is out on loan.”
