Tottenham Hotspur have apparently changed their stance regarding their interest in Arkadiusz Milik, with Tuttomercatoweb reporting that talks with Napoli are underway concerning a potential move this summer.
Milik has been linked with Spurs for much of the window. Jose Mourinho meanwhile, has made no secret of his desire to sign a new striker before the deadline passes (via Football London).
And it appears that Tottenham’s need to bolster their attacking options has prompted the club to modify their stance on Milik.
According to Tuttomercatoweb, Spurs were previously looking at signing Milik next summer when his contract expires.
However, the report has suggested that Tottenham have also entered discussions with Napoli in the last few hours. It is claimed that they are hoping to reach an agreement that sees the Poland international arrive in this window.
It remains to be seen if Spurs do indeed step up their interest in Milik. Tottenham fans would be forgiven for not getting carried away until something more substantial emerges.
But it could be an exciting sign. The 26-year-old has been outstanding for the Serie A side. And a move for him makes particular sense because of his versatility.
It was always going to be difficult for Tottenham to address their striker problem this summer. Any goalscorer good enough to improve Spurs’ squad was always likely to have an issue with being Harry Kane’s understudy.
But Milik is a player who does not necessarily have to be playing up front to get into the team. So it would be a huge boost for Tottenham if anything came of their reported decision to target a move this summer.
