Southampton have taken a clear stance on loanee Theo Walcott after his mixed spell since his move from Everton in the January transfer window.

According to Hampshire Live, the Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl is still keen on making the winger’s loan move a permanent one despite his indifferent form. Walcott has assisted just once in the Premier League since returning from a hamstring injury.

The publication are claiming that the Everton man is in talks with the soon-to-be free agent Blues man over a move to the St Mary’s Stadium as a permanent fixture. Southampton are in a comfortable position with the 32-year-old and are able to hold talks with the ace due to his soon-to-be expiring terms with the Merseyside outfit.

Southampton’s attack has been enduring something of a rollercoaster ride this season. Whilst Danny Ings started off the season in red-hot form, scoring six goals in his first 11 Premier League games, he has fallen off drastically.

Meanwhile, the likes of Che Adams and James Ward-Prowse have been blowing hot and cold all year long despite scoring seven and eight times respectively. After the aforementioned trio, the next highest scorer is Stuart Armstrong, who has scored just four league goals.

It really does highlight the lack of attacking threat in forward areas for the Saints, who could do with a bit of added experience in the final third.

Walcott’s experience in the top-flight speaks for itself. 366 games, 77 goals and 60 assists since he moved to the league back in 2006 is a show of his incredible longevity and is a testament to his wonderful ability.

However, the added benefit of signing him is the fact he’d be available on a free transfer, which opens up the potential for spending money in midfield, where the Saints have lacked consistency this season. He would be an astute signing for the south coast outfit in the summer window.
