Southampton are interested in signing FC Groningen winger Ritsu Doan, according to a report by Calciomercato. Ajax and PSV will provide competition for Doan’s signature.

Doan currently plays for FC Groningen in the Eredivisie and he has 28 league appearances to his name this season. With four goals and three assists in the Dutch top-flight, it is clear to see why Ajax, PSV and Southampton are ready to take a punt on this youngster.

Last season, Doan scored nine Eredivisie goals and provided four assists in his debut campaign in Europe following a move from Gamba Osaka.

FC Groningen have tied Doan down until summer 2021. But they now face a battle to keep him with Ajax, PSV and Southampton circling.

The 20-year-old plays out wide and Ralph Hasenhuttl is keen to bolster his attacking midfield options on the south coast.

Southampton have seen Nathan Redmond return to form under Hasenhuttl and fans will hope that the Austrian can get the best out of Doan if he joins.

The 11-cap Japan international already has three goals for his country and he is tipped for a bright future. He was scoring goals in Holland as a teenager and many believe he could hack it at Premier League level.

Whether Southampton firm up their interest remains to be seen and they would also have to fend off competition from Dutch duo Ajax and PSV.
