Report: Southampton want Emile Smith Rowe; but Arsenal currently want to keep him

Arsenal are currently planning to keep hold of Emile Smith Rowe, but Football London reports that Southampton are amongst the sides who would be interested if the Gunners decided to loan the youngster out this summer.

Smith Rowe is yet to make an appearance for Mikel Arteta’s men this term due to injury. However, he showed glimpses of his potential while on loan at Huddersfield Town during the second-half of last season.

And those performances have seemingly convinced Arteta that he could have a role to play with the Gunners during this campaign.

According to Football London, Smith Rowe is currently set to stay put this summer. It is claimed that Arteta believes that he would be better off working with him.

However, it does appear that there is scope for their stance to change. Football London hints that his future could become a talking point should Arsenal sign Houssem Aouar.

And if he does become available on loan, it does appear that he would certainly attract attention. Football London reports that the Saints and Fulham have the youngster on their radar.

TBR View: Premier League loan could be next step for Smith Rowe

Smith Rowe is no stranger to going out on loan. As well as joining Huddersfield last term, he also spent some time with RB Leipzig the previous year.

Moving to another Premier League club for a period could therefore, prove the next step in the attacking midfielder’s development. If he is not going to play under Arteta, he may be better off elsewhere.

Of course, Arteta may be planning to use the 20-year-old upon his return from injury. And as the report notes, the Arsenal boss thinks he would be benefit from working with him in training.

But joining a club like Southampton for a season could also prove a very good option at this stage of his career.
