Southampton are reportedly ready to focus all their efforts on signing Celtic midfielder Olivier Ntcham after missing out on Weston McKennie.
The Saints were in the mix to sign the USA international, but were beaten to the player by Italian giants Juventus, who have completed a £4 million loan move – there is then the option to buy the player which could take the total outlay to £23 million including performance-related add ons (Daily Mail).
Juve’s business is seemingly bad news for Celtic, with TEAMtalk reporting that Southampton will now try and sign Ntcham as an alternative.
The Saints have been linked with Ntcham before, suggesting the Hoops could now have a fight on their hands to keep the Frenchman.
TEAMtalk suggest the situation with Ntcham has now changed following Celtic’s failure to qualify for the Champions League again.
It is claimed a few Parkhead stars could be heading for the exit, including Kris Ajer and Odsonne Edouard as well as Ntcham.
Ntcham has been with the Scottish giants since 2017 after joining from Manchester City.
TBR’s View – Celtic fans should brace
Following Celtic’s European disappointment, one would think it’s going to be a tough ask for Celtic to keep hold of Ntcham.
And the task seems to be even harder now with Juventus landing McKennie ahead of Southampton.
His exit would sting, but with two years remaining on his contract, perhaps now is the right time to cash in for a premium price.
