Southampton may struggle to reignite any interest in Sporting Lisbon winger Jovane Cabral, with O Jogo reporting that the 22-year-old is set to sign a new deal.

Portuguese publiction Record claimed in September that the Saints were keen on signing the Lisbon ace, who has also captured admiring glances from the likes of Fulham and West Ham.

However, O Jogo now claims that Jovane is set to enter negotiations with Sporting over signing a new deal, despite already having a couple of years to run on his contract.

The 22-year-old scored six times last season and assisted another three, impressing along the way and enhancing his reputation on the European scene.

But it looks like Southampton may well miss out on Jovane for now, with Sporting apparently determined to tie the young attacker down to a new deal as soon as possible.

Jovane certainly looks a talent and we’ve seen how successful players can be coming from Portugal to the Premier League in recent times.

But a new deal would either end the Saints’ hopes of landing him, or if they do want to pursue their interest, then the fee would no doubt increase massively if Ralph Hassenhuttl still wanted his man.

Jovane would bring goals, assists, pace, and potential to the ranks for Southampton if he did sign. However, it looks increasingly more unlikely given this latest development.
