Dutch outlet Voetbal International have claimed that Southampton are one of seven clubs interested in signing AS Roma right-back Rick Karsdorp – and have opened talks to sign the Netherlands international.
Karsdorp, 25, is likely to be on the transfer list at Roma this summer. Having joined Roma in 2017 from Feyenoord for £15.5million (VI), he has since struggled to get a game for the Italians – mainly due to injury.
Two serious injuries – one of which was a cruciate ligament injury – has limited Karsdorp to just 15 Roma outings. Last summer, he returned to Feyenoord on loan and showed signs that he was past the injury, playing 24 times.
Southampton are believed to have opened talks to sign Karsdorp – as have Besiktas and Schalke. Napoli, Augsburg, Atalanta and Olympiakos are also interested. TransferMarkt claims he has the same agent as Wesley Hoedt.

TBR’s view – Is Walker-Peters deal not as definite, as expected?
Following his loan at Southampton, recent reports have suggested that Walker-Peters is expected to complete a permanent £12million move to the south coast. But if Southampton want Karsdorp, is that deal in jeopardy?
It is hard to see Southampton spending big to sign two right-sided defenders. So if the Saints go ahead with a move for Karsdorp, could it be a sign that a deal for Walker-Peters may not be as advanced as initially believed?
