Report: Southampton one of many clubs interested in Arsenal’s Folarin Balogun

The Daily Mail have claimed that Southampton are looking to take advantage over Arsenal’s failure to extend Folarin Balogun’s contract, and will look to rival numerous European sides for his signature this summer.

Balogun, 19, is considered one of Arsenal’s most highly-rated prospects in their academy after netting 10 goals in 15 Premier League 2 appearances this summer. Arsenal rejected an offer from Brentford in January, worth £5million.

Goal have claimed that Arsenal were looking to extend Balogun’s contract with his current deal expiring next summer. The previous report claimed that Arsenal offered a performance-related deal, which has been rejected.

Now, The Mail claim Southampton are looking to take advantage – while AC Milan, Brentford and a number of other European clubs are interested. It remains to be seen how much Arsenal will charge for the England Under-18 star.

TBR’s view – Southampton perfect for Balogun

Danny Ings has been in sensational form for Southampton this season, netting 21 goals. But other than the former Liverpool ace, do Southampton have another goalscoring striker? Shane Long certainly does not fit that category.

Che Adams was a big-money signing last summer but is yet to find the back of the net since his move from Birmingham City. The Saints have faith in youth and a move for Balogun would be ideal for all parties involved.
