Southampton have made a fresh offer to Ryan Bertrand, with the Sunday Mirror (28/3; page 83) reporting that the Saints remain desperate to tie the left-back down to a new contract.

Bertrand’s future at St Mary’s appears to have been uncertain for some time. The Sunday Mirror reports that he is out of contract on the south coast in the summer.

And he has been linked with a move away. The London Evening Standard reported in January that Arsenal were monitoring the 31-year-old.

It is not clear whether Mikel Arteta remains interested in Bertrand. But it seems that the Saints are hopeful that the England international will stay.

According to the Sunday Mirror (28/3; page 83), Southampton have made a fresh contract offer to Bertrand. And it is claimed that the Saints are growing confident that he will put pen to paper.

It would be a big boost for Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men to keep Bertrand, who earns £70,000-a-week, according to Spotrac. He has been an amazing servant for the club.

They have struggled to fill the void he leaves when he is unavailable.

They are also having to deal with Danny Ings’s future being up in the air. As noted by The Athletic, he is out of contract next year.

So it would certainly be a step in the right direction if Bertrand signed a new deal.
