Southampton are monitoring Manchester United defender Brandon Williams ahead of making a loan move for the youngster in the January transfer window.
The Athletic claims that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may be prepared to sanction a temporary move for Williams, who has fallen down the pecking order a bit this term.
Alex Telles’ arrival has shunted the Englishman another rung down the ladder. However, he is highly-rated at Old Trafford and has already made 38 Premier League appearances despite being only 20.
Sadly for Williams, he has yet to appear in the league this term, with his two appearances coming in the EFL Cup. He could, however, be set for a PL lifeline, with Saints boss Ralph Hassenhuttl keeping an eye on the youngster.
However, Luke Shaw has a knock at the moment so Williams could be given a reprieve. Southampton, meanwhile, remain keen on adding to the squad after their impressive start to the campaign.
A fine young player who could thrive under Hassenhuttl – TBR View
The Saints boss is not averse to giving young players a chance down on the south coast so Williams could well thrive if given the chance.
He’s versatile, meaning he can cover both full-back positions but with Walker-Peters and Bertrand both playing well, he might find himself in a similar situation to that he has in Manchester.
Certainly one to keep an eye on for Southampton, though. Especially with the busy Christmas period to come and injuries and suspensions bound to start totting up.
