Report: Southampton join race for Celtic centre-forward Odsonne Edouard
Celtic forward Odsonne Edouard is now reportedly attracting interest from English club Southampton.
According to the Scottish Sun, Southampton have joined a host of Premier League rivals in the transfer battle for the Scottish Premiership star.
It is explained that the 23-year-old has been closely watched by Southampton in recent times, but there is also interested from Arsenal, Aston Villa and Italian club Roma in his signature.
The report states that the French centre-forward may seek a fresh challenge at the end of the season elsewhere, and Scottish giants Celtic are expected to cash in this summer for £20million-plus.
It’s worth noting Southampton are viewed as “outsiders” in the race for Edouard, despite the strong connection they already have with Celtic.
Victor Wanyama, Fraser Forster, Virgil van Dijk and Stuart Armstrong have all moved to St Mary’s from the Hoops in the past, plus Mohamed Elyounoussi is currently on a loan deal at Parkhead from the Saints.
If Edouard has his heart on playing elsewhere, they should take the money for him and cash in.
However, there has to be a strong plan in place for Celtic to find a replacement, as he’s been the leading frontman for them who’s scored 22 goals across all competitions this season.
The £19,000-a-week (Salary Sport) striker is going to leave a massive void at the club, as he’s scored 83 goals in 167 appearances for them.
He’s certainly got the natural ability to be a success at a Premier League side.
