German outlet Stuttgarter Zeitung have claimed that Southampton are interested in raiding newly-promoted Bundesliga side Stuttgart for Orel Mangala – as a replacement for new Tottenham signing Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
Hojbjerg, 25, completed a move to Spurs on Tuesday in a move that has been in the works for quite some time. Hojbjerg had entered the final year of his contract at Southampton, and has now signed a five-year Spurs deal.
Stuttgart ace Mangala has just played a crucial part in helping his side regain a place in the Bundesliga. The Belgium Under-21 international has also been on the books at Borussia Dortmund – while playing 34 times for Hamburg.
It is believed that Southampton are ready to pay £6.3million to sign Mangala – but it remains to be seen if that is of Stuttgart’s liking. He has a contract until 2023 with Stuttgart.
TBR’s view – Mangala could be a diamond in the rough
Though he lacks top-tier experience – having played just 20 times in the Bundesliga – Mangala could prove to be a top signing for the Saints. That is because he is somewhat low risk, given his small asking price.
In this day and age, little over £6million for a player with almost 100 club appearances to his name at the age of 22 is excellent value. If Southampton can get him for such a fee, he would be a no-brainer.
