Southampton have allegedly recently enquired about AS Roma winger Ruben Providence.

What’s the story?

According to Fussball Transfers, the Saints are one of a number of clubs interested in the 20-year-old.

One of the keen clubs, Stuttgart, are looking to make a €3m (£2.5m) offer for the player.

Providence failed to make the grade at Paris Saint Germain and left in the summer of 2019 for the Italian capital.

He has performed well in spells for the side’s under-19s, scoring four times and providing seven assists across the last two seasons.

However, his versatility proves to be his biggest asset with the youngster able to play on both wings and in midfield.

Providence another young talent

There has been an obvious transfer strategy this summer from Southampton: Sign young.

Ralph Hasenhuttl’s squad had an average age of 26.1 last season, but the Austrian seems keen to bring that down.

So far this window, the oldest recruit has been Theo Walcott, who made his loan move permanent before last season ended.

However, aside from the winger, Adam Armstrong, at 24, is the eldest of the new incomers.

It is refreshing to see the Saints build for the future; a key part of their philosophy in recent years.

Providence would be another young talent signed by Southampton with a view to developing him, amid news the Saints have enquired.

Meanwhile, Southampton have made a bid for a centre-forward.
