Southampton have become the favourites to sign Tottenham Hotspur full-back Kyle Walker-Peters, according to a report from the Daily Mail.
It appears that Walker-Peters is likely to be on the move before the January window closes. The Daily Mail reports that Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men have been joined by Crystal Palace, Brighton and West Brom in the race for his signature.
It is suggested in the report that Spurs would prefer to sell Walker-Peters rather than loan him out. And it is noted that he could cost around £12 million.
And it would appear that St Mary’s is his most likely destination.
The Daily Mail reports that the Saints have held more talks with Tottenham about signing Walker-Peters, and they are now favourites to secure his signature.
TBR View – Good business for all parties
It does not appear that Walker-Peters is going to make the grade at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Neither Mauricio Pochettino and Jose Mourinho have given him a regular spot in the side since he made his first-team debut.
So some Spurs fans may be pleased with potentially recouping an eight-figure fee. But Southampton supporters should also be happy.
The 22-year-old has often been impressive when he has played for Spurs. If he realises his potential, he could arguably be worth a lot more than £12 million in the future.
But it is probably fair to say that it is now looking unlikely that he will realise that potential if he stays at Tottenham.
