The Independent have claimed that Southampton are interested in signing Everton attacker Ademola Lookman in a £20million deal this summer.
The 21-year-old has failed to break into Marco Silva’s starting eleven this season, with the likes of Richarlison, Bernard and Theo Walcott preferred to the England youth international.
Some Everton fans feel as though Lookman has been hard done by this season, after starring in Germany during the second half of the 2017-18 campaign where he scored five goals and laid on four assists in 11 outings for RB Leipzig.
Of Lookman’s 21 Premier League appearances this season, Silva has only handed the former Charlton Athletic star three starts. He has scored only one goal all season, in the FA Cup against Lincoln City.
The report claims that Bournemouth are also monitoring the situation, while Leipzig are keen to bring Lookman back to Germany under new manager Julian Nagelsmann. The report claims Lookman is “up for sale”.
When Lookman gets a chance, he impresses. Simple as that. He is better than Theo Walcott right now, and should be given more of a chance by Everton.
For the Toffees to sell a player, who is arguably their best up-and-coming talent, for £20million to a Premier League rival, would be an absolute travesty.
Everton should be looking at a plan to push Lookman towards the first eleven next season, rather than cashing in on him and making a small profit. Everton need to keep him.
