Southampton are ready to reignite their interest in Manchester United starlet Brandon Williams, with The Sun reporting that the Saints want to take the 20-year-old on loan next season.

It has been a difficult campaign for Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men with injuries, particularly in both full-back roles.

When Kyle Walker-Peters and Ryan Bertrand have been unavailable, Hasenhuttl has often had to turn to centre-backs to fill in.

Unsurprisingly, it appears that he is already looking to bolster his ranks in the coming months. According to The Sun, one of the players the Saints want is Williams.

It is noted that they asked about him in January, but his parent club were not prepared to let him leave.

He has however, barely featured for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men this season, making just two substitute appearances in the top flight.

So it would surely be little surprise if United were much more open to a loan move next season.

If they feel that Williams – who earns £65,000-a-week, according to Spotrac – is good enough to make the grade at Old Trafford, they surely need to let him prove himself at the highest level on a consistent basis.

Southampton meanwhile, would land a player with a point to prove.

Signing Bertrand on loan in 2014 has proved to be a masterstroke. And it seems Hasenhuttl is hoping that the club can repeat the trick with another young full-back seven years on.
