Southampton are one of the English sides monitoring Giorgos Giakoumakis, with TEAMtalk reporting that Brighton and Norwich also want the 26-year-old.
Giakoumakis has been outstanding in the Eredivisie this season. The Greece international has scored 24 goals in just 26 games during his first year with VVV-Venlo.
It is, by far, the best spell of his career to date. And it appears that his form is not going unnoticed by a trio of clubs looking set to be in the Premier League next year.
According to TEAMtalk, Southampton want Giakoumakis. However, it is suggested that they face competition from the Seagulls as well as the Canaries.
Norwich, of course, look to be on the verge of securing an immediate return to the top flight. Brighton’s position is a little more precarious. But two wins before the international break have helped leave Graham Potter’s side six clear of the bottom three.
It has not been an easy season for Southampton. Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side have slid down the table since going top earlier in the campaign.
Danny Ings is, unsurprisingly, their top goalscorer. But he has only managed to score nine, having made 23 appearances.
As noted by Sky Sports, there is some uncertainty over Ings’s future. He is out of contract at the end of next season.
So perhaps Southampton are looking at Giakoumakis in preparation for a key decision on Ings’s situation in the coming months.
