Southampton are leading the race to sign Jorge de Frutos, with the Sunday Mirror (28/2; page 67) reporting that the Saints have already made contact with his agent.
De Frutos is enjoying a fantastic season in La Liga. He has only made 10 starts for Levante in the top flight. However, he has managed to make a major impression.

The 24-year-old has scored three times and contributed seven assists in 24 appearances in total.
He also scored an outrageous goal from just inside Atletico Madrid’s half earlier this month with Atleti pushing everyone – including Jan Oblak – up for a last-gasp corner.
And it appears that his form has caught Ralph Hasenhuttl’s eye. According to the Sunday Mirror (28/2; page 67), the Saints lead the race to sign the winger.

It is claimed that they have already spoken to de Frutos’s agent. The Sunday Mirror does note that he is under contract until 2025.
Southampton fans may be hoping that the club enjoy a busy summer. It appears imperative that they bolster the depth within their squad.
They have had real problems due to injury. Those issues scuppered their hopes of building on an amazing start to the campaign.
It may also have a positive impact on their chances of keeping their best players if more quality comes in. Players such as Ryan Bertrand and Danny Ings will surely want to see signs that Southampton can take that next step.
Signing de Frutos would be an exciting move based on the form he has shown so far.
