Southampton are closing in on agreeing a season-long loan for Tom Davies, with talkSPORT reporting that the Saints are in talks with Everton about a potential move for the midfielder.

Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men are yet to replace Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg following his exit this summer. They also moved on the likes of Mario Lemina and Harrison Reed permanently having loaned them out last season.

And talkSPORT has suggested that their ranks in the middle of the park are about to bolstered with the arrival of Davies.

The report claims that the two clubs remain in talks. But it is suggested that the 22-year-old is set to move to the south coast for the campaign.

Davies has been named in both of Carlo Ancelotti’s squads in the Premier League this term. However, a substitute appearance in the dying minutes of the win over Tottenham has proved to be his only game-time in the top flight.

Everton have put together a superb midfield group over the summer. And that appears to have paved the way for Davies to potentially move on.

TBR View: Davies loan could work out well for everyone

If Davies – who earns £25,000-a-week, according to Spotrac – can recapture his best form, he could prove to be an inspired signing for the Saints. He has previously shown glimpses of being a fantastic player in the Premier League.

Everton could also prove to be big beneficiaries of Davies leaving temporarily. Hasenhuttl has proved that he is a superb coach. So a year working under the Austrian could do wonders for the youngster.

It should certainly be a lot better for the midfielder than spending a year on the periphery of Everton’s squad would be.
