Southampton have joined Tottenham Hotspur in the race for one of the Championship’s top talents. According to The Sun, Southampton are ready to battle with Spurs for Queens Park Rangers starlet Eberechi Eze.
The England U20 midfielder has been thriving in the Championship for QPR and caught the eye again yesterday. He scored his second goal of the season in the Hoop’s 3-1 win over Wigan Athletic.
Eze has been stealing the headlines for QPR with some impressive midfield performances. On the opening day of this season, he scored a sensational goal against Stoke City, showcasing his dribbling skills before putting the ball in the net. Yesterday, he scored with a low free-kick.
The 21-year-old now has eight goals in 69 games for QPR. Despite his young age, Eze has racked up more than 100 senior appearances, playing 22 times on loan at Wycombe Wanderers too.
Southampton and Tottenham have been watching the talented attacking midfielder and pondering a bid. QPR could be bracing themselves for offers when the January window opens.
It is no surprise to see Eze attracting attention from the top-flight. After so much rejection in his career (being released by a number of clubs including Millwall), he is proving his worth at QPR.
Eze just needs to work on his consistency if he gets a big move. He clearly has the talent but he needs to produce it every week wherever he goes. If he can do this, then he could be a future Premier League star in the making.
