Southampton want to appoint Erik Stoffelshaus as their new Sporting Director, according to The Sun.
With the club struggling in the Premier League, Southampton are eyeing a new staff member to head recruitment and direction. Stoffelshaus has emerged as a key target, although Manchester United also want him.
Stoffelshaus would replace Ross Wilson in the Sporting Director role at Southampton. Wilson has recently left the south coast to join Rangers in the Scottish Premiership.
Southampton are eager to bring in a new face soon so that preparations can be made for the January transfer window. After the 9-0 loss against Leicester City (equalling the Premier League record), this has become a pressing concern.
Stoffelshaus has a proven track record at Schalke, having found players like Manuel Neuer and Mesut Ozil. He has also spent time with Lokomotiv Moscow. The 48-year-old has a strong reputation in Germany and he could help to solve Southampton’s issues.
Stoffelshaus’ record speaks for itself. Southampton need to make a swift appointment to replace Wilson and he seems like a strong contender given his proven success.
The German will need to hit the ground running at Southampton. With the threat of relegation becoming a real possibility, Southampton need reinforcements in the winter and Stoffelshaus could find the right men.
