Report: Sources surprised by Spurs interest in £19.8m PL star
The Athletic has reported that their sources in France are surprised to see Spurs interested in Joachim Andersen in the summer transfer window, as well as the hype surrounding the defender in the Premier League.
Andersen is one of a handful of players who emerged from Fulham’s campaign with real credit in the bank.
The Dane’s arrival on loan sparked an upturn in form that helped give Scott Parker’s men a much better chance of staying up.
Ultimately, they failed to beat the drop, but Andersen is attracting attention.
The Athletic reports that Tottenham could battle Arsenal and Manchester United for the 25-year-old.
It was recently claimed in Denmark that Spurs are expected to complete a deal for Andersen. They have already held talks.
Interestingly, if Tottenham do complete a deal, it would appear that many at parent club Lyon will feel that they got the better end of the deal – by far.
He reportedly struggled at Lyon, before being relegated with Fulham. So they are not sure why Spurs are keen.
The report suggests that a fee of £19.8 million is expected to be agreed.
Spurs alarm bells may be ringing over Andersen transfer after Athletic report
There is no question that Fulham improved after signing Andersen. He brought leadership to the side. But he also produced some outstanding displays.
Nevertheless, the report may alarm some Spurs fans. He will need to step up considerably if he moves to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Tottenham endured a miserable campaign. And one of their main problems was finding a consistent centre-back pairing.
No player stamped an authority on a place in the side, so the pressure will certainly be on Andersen if he arrives.
