Report: Sources close to 'special' Everton player now say he is happy at Goodison Park

Anthony Gordon is happy to stay at Everton amid ongoing discussions over a new contract at Goodison Park.

The Daily Mail claim that sources close to Gordon have said he is content to remain with the Toffees after transfer links away during the summer.

They say Frank Lampard does not think Gordon is unhappy and the Everton boss spoke about Gordon ahead of the clash with Newcastle tonight.

Lampard said: “I have no concerns about the noise around the contract and I have spoken to him about it. I think that’s private, and I think unfortunately the headline is the numbers people talk about and obviously that should stay private.

“Generally I’m all for players getting what they deserve in their contracts. That is a separate story. My main concern as a manager is getting Anthony playing at his best. He is our player, he will remain that for a long time, and I think we showed that with our intention in the summer.

“And the conversation about his contract hopefully gets concluded, in a positive way, sooner rather than later. If I’m really honest, my eye is not on that at the minute, it’s more on games so I haven’t had that conversation for a few weeks.

“He’s a young player so I shouldn’t just assume that what happened at the back end of the window doesn’t affect him, doesn’t affect the feeling around him. You try and have a close relationship, which I do have with him. We laugh and joke a lot, he’s a good lad, a funny lad, and I can be to the point with him as well, he takes that as well.”

Tonight’s opponents Newcastle have been linked with a January swoop for Gordon and there were whispers in the summer as well.

Gordon was described as “really special” by former West Ham United striker Dean Ashton on talkSPORT last season.

He said: “I think he could be special. Really special. Personally, I think Anthony Gordon would be a superb signing for Newcastle.

“Whenever I have seen him, his delivery from wide areas. His workrate. I think he could be a special player.”
