Some insiders at Newcastle United think Eddie Howe could spring a real surprise this season, with the Athletic reporting that some people at the club see European qualification as an ‘outside possibility‘.
The Magpies have got off to a decent start to the new campaign considering they’ve had some tough fixtures already.
Howe’s men currently sit eleventh in the Premier League, but have played at Anfield and hosted Manchester City at St James’ Park.
And some people at the club believe they could spring a real surprise this season.

Newcastle insiders think Howe could spring real surprise
Although Howe doesn’t share the same belief, insiders feel there could be an opportunity due to other European candidates’ early season form.
The Magpies have also implemented a new bonus scheme that will see players rewarded for a higher finish in the league.
It would be an amazing achievement if Howe was able to bring European football back to St James’ Park this season.
It seems unlikely at this moment in time but Newcastle have improved massively under the Englishman.

They’ve also had a tough run of opening fixtures and were unlucky to have not beaten Crystal Palace last weekend after controversially having a goal ruled out.
This time last season, the Magpies looked to be serious relegation candidates but Howe turned their form around and comfortably kept them in the Premier League.
It will be a tough ask for Howe to get the Magpies back into European football, even with the extra place for the Europa Conference League.
Newcastle are undoubtedly on an upward trajectory after the takeover but it will take time to build a side capable of competing at the top end of the table.
