Report: Some at Spurs believe transfer interest has had positive impact on Davinson Sanchez
Spurs may be about to receive an unexpected boost ahead of the new season with Football London reporting that some around the club have noticed that Davinson Sanchez has returned with more confidence – partly because of the interest in him in the transfer window.
Sanchez was one of several players who went into the summer seemingly facing an uncertain future at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The Colombian was poor last season. And it is not difficult to imagine many Spurs fans picking out the 25-year-old as the defender who needed replacing most urgently.
Sanchez has been linked with the exit. Talks have reportedly been held with Sevilla. Meanwhile, The Athletic suggested that he is one of the players to have been told by Tottenham that they would like to sell him.
But it appears that the speculation has had an interesting impact on Sanchez.
According to Football London, some at Spurs have picked up on the centre-back having fresh confidence.
And the report suggests that that is down to a couple of factors. He did well at the Copa America with Colombia. But it is also down to the interest in him in the transfer window.
Could Sanchez save Spurs a lot of money this summer?
Sanchez has not been a poor signing for Tottenham. But he has not yet lived up to expectations either.
So if a significant bid came in, Spurs would have surely had reason to seriously consider letting him go.
And it may well be that he moves on. Tottenham have plenty of options at centre-back. And they also have other areas for concern elsewhere in the squad. So the funds may be welcome.
Having said that, if Sanchez’s boost in confidence translate into better performances on the pitch, surely he may end up helping Spurs save millions in the market.
If he can realise his potential, he could be an outstanding player. And with someone like Cristian Romero alongside him, Spurs may potentially have a frightening partnership up their sleeve.
