'It's great to see': Sol Campbell now thinks Arsenal made a brilliant signing this summer

Sol Campbell has raved about Aaron Ramsdale after Arsenal defeated fierce rivals Tottenham 3-1 at the Emirates Stadium.

The former centre-back was on TalkSPORT (Breakfast Show: 27/09: 09:10) this morning and was quizzed about the club’s new number one goalkeeper.

Ramsdale was signed in a deal that could cost Arsenal £30 million. Despite arriving to provide backup, he has quickly wrestled the gloves away from Bernd Leno.

It would seem as though he’s now established as the club’s number one goalkeeper.

How Hearts became the UK's BIGGEST fan-owned club

Yesterday he was robbed of a clean sheet when Son Heung-min scored a close-range consolation for Tottenham.

He did, however, prevent a nervy finale by producing an outrageous save from a Lucas Moura effort.

Campbell has admired the way in which Ramsdale has conducted himself and thinks he’s proving perfect for Arsenal.

He told TalkSPORT (Breakfast Show: 27/09: 09:10): “It’s great to see that he’s engaged with all the players. He made a really good save that he tipped onto the bar.

“It’s the attitude of togetherness and that will get you through games. He’s always talking, there’s a bit of banter in there and he’ll bring the best out of players.

“It seems like he’s been there forever and he’s been a breath of fresh air with him going in there.

“He’s come from a different type of club and he’s the old-school kind of goalkeeper that Arsenal perhaps needed.”

Future star: Ramsdale has proved people wrong at Arsenal

The young goalkeeper is already silencing his doubters. Plenty saw it as an overpayment when Arsenal parted with such a sum for essentially a backup custodian.

Just six weeks on from his arrival, however, and Ramsdale is already the club’s number one and the future looks bleak for Leno it has to be said.

Clearly, getting the call up to be part of the England squad during Euro 2020 has worked wonders for Ramsdale’s confidence.

He is now thriving in the first team and looks to be enjoying his football once again.

Although some baulked at the valuation when he was signed, he now looks like a steal given his performances in the team so far.

Arsenal will be hoping he can kick on even further.
