Football London have claimed that Shkodran Mustafi has rejected to offer of a contract extension from Arsenal and has informed the north London club that he plans to leave The Emirates at the end of his current deal, next summer.
Mustafi, 28, has been strongly linked with a move away from Arsenal over the course of the past 12 months – with plenty of Italian sides supposedly interested. He has now entered the final year of his contract.
But despite the return of William Saliba and the signing of Gabriel, Arsenal decided to offer Germany international Mustafi a contract extension in the summer. However, £35million (FL) signing Mustafi decided to turn that offer down.
Instead, the former Valencia and Everton man chose to inform the Arsenal hierarchy that he plans on leaving when his contract expires. It is believed that Mustafi would prefer a move to Italy, as his wife’s Albanian-Swiss family living close in Switzerland.
TBR’s view – Mustafi has no future at Arsenal
It is somewhat surprising that Arsenal chose to attempt to extend his contract – although, he did have a run of games in the Arsenal side towards the end of last season. But with Saliba boasting potential and Gabriel signed, he is well down the rankings.
Indeed, he only made his first appearance against Leicester on Sunday evening – and that was as a substitute to replace David Luiz. Mustafi needs to leave in order to gain more regular game time, something which he is not going to get at Arsenal.
